Abstract Views: 1

The relationship between the United States and China is a defining feature of contemporary global politics, shaped by economic growth, technological innovation, geopolitical shifts, and contrasting political ideologies. This study examines the historical evolution of U.S.-China relations from the Cold War to the present, highlighting key milestones such as China’s reform era, its accession to the World Trade Organization, and the post-9/11 strategic environment. The analysis considers economic competition, ideological divergence, military capabilities, and diplomatic initiatives, emphasizing how these factors contribute to both cooperation and rivalry. China’s rise as the world’s second-largest economy, coupled with its proactive foreign policy and global initiatives like the Belt and Road Initiative, challenges U.S. hegemony and reshapes international governance. Simultaneously, shared global concerns—including security threats, pandemics, and climate change—necessitate collaboration. The study concludes that the trajectory of U.S.-China relations will significantly influence the global order, with outcomes dependent on the balance between strategic competition and cooperative engagement.
